
Mosquitoes suck blood by nipping's done with a proboscis, the elongated mouthparts of some insects. The mosquitos slide through your skin and seek for your blood. But in fact less than 5% of skin is blood vessel, so it is quite hard for the mosquitoes to find. In case they find the blood vessel, they will suck suddenly. If they can not find, the insects withdraw and try to find another area of skin.
A mosquito can suck two to three times of its weight. When the mosquitoes suck so heavy it can barely fly, thus it looks for a place to lie down. After a few hours the mosquito has decrease its blood by half of sucking volume. Luckily, less than half the mosquitoes are biters. First, only females mosquitoes suck blood. Second, most females feed on blood only when they need some protein to make their eggs.
